Divock Origi scored his first goals since start of October as his hat-trick fired Lille to a convincing 3-0 Ligue 1 victory against Rennes on Sunday.
Origi, on loan from Liverpool, ended his drought in style with a commanding performance that earned him a standing ovation when he was taken off in the 77th minute.Origi’s first goal in nearly six months came courtesy of a classy finish in the 38th minute, before he doubled his tally on the night from penalty spot just past the hour mark.
The Belgian struck twice in the second half to add to his earlier strike to give Lille a third successive win and move them into the top 10, above their opponents.
He completed his hat-trick 10 minutes later when converting Nolan Roux’s cross at the back post, before taking the plaudits at the Pierre Mauroy stadium. It signals a dramatic change of fortune for Rene Girard’s side, who had won just once in six games before notching three consecutive wins to move them away from any potential relegation troubles.
The 19-year-old son to former Kenyan international Mike Okoth, was signed by Liverpool last summer but was loaned back to Lille for 2014/15 season. He is cousin to Kenyan goalkeeper Arnold Origi, who took to his facebook page to congratulate him for his performance.
“Congratulations Divock for your first career hat trick against Rennes. A perfect send off for Grandma. She is definitely smiling with pride.”
